Educational Technology

“Teaching in the Internet age means we must teach tomorrow’s skills today.” – Jennifer Fleming

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick

These quotes sum up everything Educational Technology is. It is the integration of today’s technology into tomorrow’s citizens. We are in a so called “Internet Age” wherein everything that used to be in the thickest of books is now in the thinnest of gadgets. The use of technology in today’s learning is not only crucial but also a necessity, because, as the second quote states, it is the pen and paper of our time. We look around the streets, at train stations, in the airport, in a coffee shop, in a library, even in a restroom, and all we see are people holding their phones, typing on their laptops, playing on their tablets, and managing business on their techy watches. Technology is all around us especially the younger generation, in the past, a 4 year old holding and knowing how to operate a tablet was probably unheard of, but that was then and today that scene is as normal as it gets. So, in order to reach the students of today, we must speak their language, and that is the language of the Internet and multimedia. In my opinion, the very essence of Education Technology is being able to utilize the Internet, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and the like to better ourselves as future educators and to ease our way into our student’s way of thinking and language. These are just some of what I know from the vast field of Educational Technology. I want to explore more about it, I want to learn how to create interesting videos in order to reach students with visual learning, and I want to create catchy songs that can teach hard subjects to auditory learners. I would like to try 3D Printing for those kinesthetic learners. Also, learning how to create memes in order to break the ice for the first day or during a hard lesson is something I would like to add to my skillset. There are endless possibilities when it comes to technology, it will keep on evolving and changing, but what better way to utilize it than to add it to a teacher’s toolbox of education wherein it will serve a higher purpose of instructing tomorrow’s leaders.EdTech-cloud
